John Chp. 4
RE: Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well
Reflection
Went well:
-ice breaker game was challenging for some people but i think everyone enjoyed it and thought it ended too earlier.
-everyone was obligated to focus on the story and come up with something in the play, reading the scripture in the mean time.
-every member participated and took ownership of their play.
-the students came up with fairly good ideas. Although the planning stage wasn't so strong, when they actually performed, they had a lot of fun with it.
-Chris' personal example at the end about one of his friends he can never see again and how he could have shared God's love to him is effective.
-Winston did a good job on summarizing John Chpt 4 and explaining the historical significance of various things.
-the session flowed from the scripture in the beginning until the end where Chris finished.
-I think the teens are encouraged to share their faith to their friends...
Can improve on:
-some kids were dazed away when listening to myself sharing about the background of the story. (material was irrelevant; not important to them; did not flow nicely.)
-the groups were not totally focused during the planning stage prior to the play, they just wanted to have fun doing other things (lack of guidance from teachers?)
-ensure if the teens enjoyed today's Sunday School session and that they find it challenging.
-Erica (from what we saw) had some trouble taking on a leadership role over the group she was placed in.
Overall:
Maybe next time we should keep the whole class together on an activity. Perhaps if they are all working together, Winston and I could team up and help guide the students as best we can. It also strengthens the bonds between the students within the class.
I think we're heading in the right direction but perhaps we should challenge them a bit more in the next few Sunday School with something that they can try in their week of school when it's not Sunday. Perhaps encourage them to do the four things that P. Ed mentioned. Prayer, Fasting, Simplifying life and Solitude, which were talked about today during service. But also, encourage them in the other areas of Worship, Celebration, Giving, Devotion, Service.
